Physiotherapy & Massage Therapy
At Sports Centre Physiotherapy our physiotherapists are trained to manage immediate sports related injuries, to return athletes safely to sport and to decrease the risk of re-injury. We accomplish this by providing treatment that is effective in: pain relief, tissue healing, exercise prescription, self-management strategies, flexibility and strength training, biomechanical and training error identification and correction, and prevention advice.
Sports Centre Physiotherapy offers a complete range of equipment and treatment for musculoskeletal injuries. Colin Moore, Joyce Ling, Blythe Martin and Reta Holland, our physiotherapists, use manual therapy, modalities and specific exercise to decrease pain and swelling, improve range of motion, strength, proprioception, and posture. Our massage therapists Jocelyne Ludgate and Julie-Anne Pineau uses soft tissue manipulation to restore range of motion, decrease pain, improve posture and return clients to function. All our therapists look globally and provide exercises to correct the cause of the symptoms and allow a safe return to activity.
Sports Centre Physiotherapy is actively involved in the sporting community. Sports Centre Physiotherapy is the official physiotherapy clinic for Holland College Athletics, and Andrew’s Hockey Growth Programs. Our therapists receive regular training in sport specific physiotherapy courses and have worked with national teams at international competitions, provincial teams at national competitions, and local teams at provincial and regional competitions. Sports Centre Physiotherapy physiotherapists draw upon their many years of experience to accurately diagnose a sports injury and plan an individually based treatment and rehabilitation program.

Custom Knee Bracing
Sports Centre Physiotherapy measures and fits custom knee braces for ligament instability and osteoarthritis.
Ligament Instability
Functional knee braces are useful in rehabilitation following ligamentous knee injuries and ACL reconstruction. They offer control of knee rotation and anteroposterior joint shifting.
Osteoarthritis
Unloader braces are designed to provide pain relief for OA sufferers by reducing the weight on the affected knee compartment. Studies generally show that unloader braces diminish pain, increase walking tolerance, provide better function and may delay the need for knee replacement surgery.
Knee braces should only be used in conjunction with a rehabilitation program that incorporates strength and balance training, flexibility, activity modification and technique refinement.
Custom Orthotics
During standing and walking we are subjected to forces that produce stress and strain throughout our bodies. When a foot imbalance is present there can be abnormal forces on the feet, knees, hips, back and/or neck that leads to pain and poor function. The foot imbalance must be corrected to improve body alignment and therefore, decrease pain and improve function.
A custom orthotic is a doctor prescribed device that fits inside your footwear and is made to adjust biomechanical disorders in the feet. It is made specifically for each patients foot and its function is to realign the foot with the leg.
At Sports Centre Physiotherapy we measure and fit for Performance Custom Orthotics. You will be examined by a physiotherapist who will take a history of your symptoms, physically examine your feet and legs for alignment and use a computerized gait analysis. The computer gait analysis uses technology that consists of computerized weight bearing mapping of your feet and gives objective data relating to foot pressures that occur during walking and is used to determine if orthotics are necessary. Orthotics are then constructed based on the findings of the physical and computerized evaluation that will correct your alignment.
All orthotics come with a two year warranty and a 45 day money back guarantee.
Postural Assessment
Poor posture can lead to a variety of problems such as neck, shoulder and backaches, as well as joint stiffness, which causes wear and tear on your muscles. Poor posture can also affect your emotional well-being by reducing your confidence and self-esteem. Proper posture is absolutely necessary to avoid pain and allow for efficient movement. A good posture will maximise the function of muscles and joints, aiding in general well-being and the performance of physical activity. Performance improves because your bones and joints are aligned and your muscles are being used properly. Since your muscles are being used properly, your body will use less energy, which prevents fatigue and improves performance. There are many causes of poor posture such as injury, habit, and muscle weakness or tightness.
At Sports Centre Physiotherapy, your posture will be examined by a physiotherapist. Your postural assessment will include an examination of alignment when standing, tests for flexibility and muscle length, and tests for muscle strength. Based on the findings of your assessment you will be shown specific corrective exercises to improve your posture. You will be educated on activities that are causing your postural problems and how to avoid them. Your progress will be monitored and your exercises progressed until you reach your ideal posture.
Once you have obtained proper stationary posture you can further improve your well being through more efficient movement. This is achieved through proper dynamic posture.
Video Analysis - Dynamic Posture
Dynamic posture is the body’s position during movement. Proper dynamic posture leads to coordinated movement, greater force production, and reduced stress on the joints and soft tissues. If a body segment is out of alignment during movement there is potential for injury or a performance error.
At Sports Centre Physiotherapy we have software that records your movement and breaks it down into fractions of a second. We can determine where your movement pattern is going wrong and when it occurs in the movement. Once movement errors are diagnosed corrective exercises are prescribed to prevent the movement flaws. Correct movement patterns reduce the risk for injury and improve performance.
Total Knee Replacement Rehabilitation Program
The physiotherapists at Sports Centre Physiotherapy have designed a rehabilitation program for people undergoing a total knee replacement. This total knee replacement program was designed in conjunction with and approved by an orthopaedic surgeon who performs total knee replacements. The purpose of the program is to improve function and decrease pain both prior to and following surgery through the use of pain relief modalities, functional exercise, and patient education.
Pre-Surgery
Time on the total knee replacement surgery waiting list is used productively by beginning an individually designed program to decrease pain and increase strength, range of motion, and overall fitness. The purpose of the pre surgery program is to improve function as much as possible prior to surgery to decrease pain and improve recovery time following surgery. In some instances following this program has led to surgery being delayed due to significant improvements in symptoms.
Post-Surgery
After surgery and discharge from the hospital, patients will begin a rehabilitation program designed to restore functional range of motion, strength, balance, and endurance. Patients will be gradually progressed through an individual exercise regime under the guidance of a physiotherapist and receive pain relief modalities as needed. The post surgery program is individually tailored to promote a safe return to daily activities. Patients are discharged from treatment to enjoy life with a well functioning knee.
